Frank Lampard Breaks Chelsea’s All Time Scoring Record to Beat Aston Villa, but still no contract.

Chelsea midfielder, Frank Lampard, has finally beaten Bobby Tamblings all time goal scoring record, with two goals against Aston Villa. Lampard’s goals saw him go one goal clear of Tamblings previous record, and also all but seal a place in the top four for his Chelsea side.

The record was previously held by Bobby Tambling during his spell at the club in 1959-1970, with 202 goals in 302 games. However, it’s a midfielder in Frank Lampard who will go just above Tambling in Chelsea’s record books.

Lampard scored the goal to equal the record and the score line in the 61st minute after a culturally taken left footed curling shot from just inside the 18-yard box. Chelsea and Lampard battled on, and finally saw a chance when Ashley Cole managed to drive a low cross, straight to the oncoming Lampard. The midfielder stroked the ball low with his right foot, leaving the keeper with no chance.

He said to the BBC after the game: “ Its great to get the record, especially in an important game.”

Lampard’s contract with Chelsea is set to expire in the summer, and the 34 year old is hopeful that he can extent his contract with the club, and possibly that scoring record with it.

He said to the BBC: “I’m hoping that I’ll be here at the end of the season we’ll get a decision on that.”

The midfielder has not only broken Chelsea’s all time scoring record, but he has also scored in double figures in the Premier League for the club in the last 10 years running. His goal also puts him puts him fourth in the all time Premier League goal scoring records, with only 11 goals separating him and former Arsenal striker; Thierry Henry.

Lampard has been at Chelsea ever since his move in 2001 from West Ham United, for a reported £11 million. The player may be forced to leave the club at the end of the season, if Chelsea don’t decide to offer him a contract extension.

It would be surprising if they don’t sign up their record-breaking man for at least another season, but stranger things have happened in football. Of course, if Chelsea don’t sign up the midfielder, he is sure to find offers from other clubs willing to take him on.
